Year 4 MTC: Information for Parents

KS2 Parent Read

Thank you to all of you who attended the parent read session to join your child in their classroom to share a story together!

Creating a love of reading in children is potentially one of the most powerful ways of improving academic standards. This is why, as parents and carers, you play a vital role in supporting your child in becoming a fluent reader who is confidently able to apply their reading skills across all areas of their lives.

The joys and benefits of reading are enormous and there is lots of information on our website about ways you can continue to encourage and excite your child with a love for reading!

World Book Day!

Swimming

We would like to thank you for your support with our intensive week of swimming in Year 4.

Your child made some great progress with their confidence in the water throughout the week and should be proud of their achievements.

Being able to swim is an important life skill to have and essential for people of any age to stay safe around water. Following on from this week of intensive swimming, we would highly recommend your child being enrolled in further swimming lessons to ensure they are able to keep themselves safe in and around water.

Please find below some information about how to enrol your child in after school swimming lessons in Swindon, should you wish to continue having your child taught how to swim.

Click HERE for the current swimming lessons at the Link Centre or you can contact them on 01793 877323.

Geography Fieldwork: We went to Coate Water to observe, measure, record and present the human and physical features in the local area using a range of geographical skills!

Holy Rood 42: We were very fortunate to be invited by the Swindon Town Football Club Community Foundation to go to the County Ground stadium for an educational ground tour and football sessions on their 4G pitch at Foundation Park. We went to see behind the scenes of the football stadium, visiting the changing rooms, tunnel, dugout and directors box areas before taking part in a football coaching session and finishing with some football matches!

English: We came into school to discover that a mysterious creature had broken in... We explored the clues to discover that the creature was a WOLF! We have been imitating our model text ‘The Boy Who Cried Wolf’ using actions and our story map to help us!

Science: Solids and Liquids! We investigated and grouped different objects into whether we thought they were liquids or solid.

English: Scavenger Hunt! We went on a scavenger hunt to find hidden clues about our model text! We found lots of objects including a globe, a paint brush and pyramids... We discovered that our model text is a non-chronological report about Egyptian Gods. We have been imitating our model text using actions and our story map to help us!
