Curriculum Maps

At Holy Rood, we follow the National Curriculum statements for history. We begin in Key Stage 1 by developing children's concepts of 'now' and 'then', 'before' and 'after'; and introducing the children to some significant figures in history. Throughout Key Stage 2, we follow a chronological approach to historical study, learning about important historical periods both in the UK and the wider world. We include a thematic study of the inventions that have shaped our world and acknowledge the importance of events in Black British history to our modern society.

Children are taught not only factual knowledge but supported to 'think like historians', developing the analytical and communication skills needed for further study.
