Holy Rood Catholic Primary School

Welcome to Holy Rood Catholic Primary School.

Holy Rood Catholic Primary School is a busy and friendly school with lots going on. This website aims to give you a taster of the school, as well as providing regularly updated information for both parents and pupils.

Holy Rood Catholic Primary is the original Catholic school of Swindon.  It was founded in 1859 in Regent Street and moved to the present building on Groundwell Road in 1899.  The school was extended in the 1950's so that there is now room for two classes of 30 pupils for each year group.  In 2000/2001 a new classroom was built and the three original Victorian classrooms were made into two larger rooms.  The loft space above the remaining two Victorian classrooms was converted to two new spacious, bright and warm rooms.  The additional rooms enable us to teach the Reception children in three groups of twenty with the additional room being used for the children to work in small groups, enhancing levels of teaching and learning.

Holy Rood was an all age school until 1958 which then became a primary school and in 1968 became an Infant school with the older children progressing to the Junior School at Upham Road.  In 2015 Holy Rood Infant and Holy Rood Junior schools were granted permission to expand into individual primary schools. The Junior school was renamed Holy Cross and we retained the original name of Holy Rood. Its classification is an Academy.
