Good Morning Year 1. We hope you are well. Here is the work for today:

 

English: Continue to complete the Holy Week storyboard.

Maths: Please find today’s work in the maths area. Today’s activity is a word problem sheet involving subtraction and addition.

Phonics: We would like you to focus on tricky words today. Please watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R087lYrRpgY Then complete the tricky word trains activity. Challenge: Use the tricky words to make up some sentences of your own.

Topic: Get crafty and create something based around Easter. Look in the topic area for some ideas.

Reading: Continue with the Easter story reading activity and answer the questions today. See in the Reading Area.

 

We hope you have had a lovely week at home and wish you a lovely Easter half term. There will not be any daily work set but please find some ideas for Easter activities in the Topic area. You can use this time to rest, play and enjoy time as a family. Feel free to continue sending in photos, as we love seeing what you are up to and are missing you greatly!

Good Morning Year 1. We hope you had a nice day yesterday. Have a go at the Joe Wicks YouTube video at 9am for a great start to the day.

Look at the Achievements area to see what Mrs Kitchen and Miss Halliwell have been making! Don't forget to send us a photo of your achievements! Email year1@holyroodprimary.co.uk  Keep checking Milo's home page as he has started to post children's work as well.

 

English: Holy Week. Look at the storyboard in the English area. Over the next two days complete the storyboard of the Holy Week. Write a sentence for each picture and colour in the picture.

Maths: Try and complete an activity in Numbots today. https://play.numbots.com   (The children have been given a password in their Home Learning book.) We have put a guide to support in the Maths area.

There are two types of games :

1. Story Mode – the emphasis is on learning the ideas and concepts behind addition and subtraction so it features more diagrams, shapes and question styles.

2. Challenge Mode – the emphasis is more on speed of recall of key facts, like number bonds to 10, doubling small numbers or adding & taking away in your head.

Phonics:  We would like you to focus on the sound ‘aw’ today. Look at the Phonics area.

Reading: Read the Easter story in the Reading area with an adult. Discuss any vocabulary that you do not understand.

English: Look at the story of Holy Week in the English area. Discuss with an adult and try to retell the story.

Maths:  Today we are going to be looking at missing numbers in a number sentence. Please find the sheet in the Maths area.

Phonics:  We would like you to focus on the sound ‘ue’ today. Look at the Phonics area.

Topic:  History. Look at the video on Isambard Kingdom Brunel and read the fact sheet with an adult. Can you answer the three questions about the famous engineer? Look in the Topic area for the video link, the fact sheet and the question sheet.

Reading: Read a book with an adult. Can you read all of the tricky words? Write down the ones you find more difficult and practise these throughout the day. Good Morning Year 1. We hope that you are well.

English/RE : Look at the video and story about Palm Sunday again from yesterday. Can you write a thank you prayer thanking God for everything he does for us? An example prayer is in the English area to help you.

Maths :  Have a look at the Compare length and height activity in the Maths area. Discuss with an adult.

Challenge: Activity 8 from the Home learning pack. Can you find the longest object in your house? Can you find the shortest? Can you find the lightest or the heaviest? Record in your Home Learning Book.  Set out your work with the date written as 31.03.20

Phonics:  We would like you to focus on the sound ‘ue’ today. Look at the Phonics area.

English/RE: We would like you to read and discuss the story of Palm Sunday with an adult. You can find the story in the Bible: Mark Chapter 11 VERSES 1-11. We have put a copy of the story in the English area.  There is also a video you can watch.

Reading: Read a book from the Oxford Owl website with an adult. Talk about the story.

Topic: Can you be a materials detective? Look around your house for different materials. Can you name them? Can you describe their properties? For example, I can see a window. It is made out of glass and it is waterproof and transparent.  Look in the Topic area for a video to help you. There is also a sheet in the area for you to complete.

Reading: Read and complete ‘What is pink?’ by Christina Rosetti. See your Home Learning pack. It is also in the Reading area.

English: Look at the picture in your Home learning pack (also in the English area) Can you think of some interesting adjectives to describe the characters and the setting? Tomorrow we will use the adjectives you have thought of to write a description of the picture.

Maths:  Practise counting forwards and back from 1 -100 using your 100 square. Today we are going to be completing adding and subtracting word problems. Please find the sheet in the Maths area.

Phonics:  We would like you to focus on the sound ‘ea’ today. Look at the Phonics area.

English: Can you add capital letters and full stops correctly? Try to make up some more sentences using the correct punctuation. Look at the sentences in the English area.

Maths:  Today we are going to be practising counting and writing numbers as words. Please find the spring themed i-spy activity in the Maths area. 

Phonics:  We would like you to focus on the sound ‘oy’ today. Look at the Phonics area.

Topic: Research and record facts about Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Look in the Topic area.

Reading: Read a book with an adult. Can you read all of the tricky words? Write down the ones you find more difficult and practise these throughout the day.

Good Morning Year 1. Please see the suggested timetable for each day in your Home Learning Pack. 

 

English: We would like you to complete activity 1 in your Home Learning pack to write a description of your home. Remember when we are describing we need to use lots of exciting adjectives!

Maths:  Please begin by completing activity 2 from the Home learning pack. We have attached a sheet on adding for the children to complete. This can be found in the Maths area.

Phonics:  We would like you to focus on the sound ‘ir’ today. Look in the Phonics area.

RE: Read the story of Zacchaeus the Tax Collector. Map out the story on a storyboard.  Look in the topic area.

Reading: Read and complete ‘The farmer and his sons’. Look in the Reading area. It is also included in the Home Learning pack.

Good Morning Year 1. We hope that you have had a restful weekend.

 

Please see the suggested timetable for each day in your Home Learning Pack. Remember to present your best work with the date underlined and try to use your best handwriting. Make sure that you have plenty of 'brain breaks' and lots of fresh air and exercise! Don't forget to watch  Joe Wicks on YouTube  at 9am. He will be on every day at the same time to keep you moving!

 

English : We would like you to discuss your weekend with an adult. Write about your weekend remembering to use your Kung Fu punctuation, adjectives and using the conjunction 'and'. Read your writing to an adult to check that it makes sense and it is your best work. Don't forget to use your best handwriting.

 

Maths : We would like you to practise counting to and back from 100 using the hundred square from your home pack. Complete  Task 1 from your Maths activities sheet in the Home learning pack.

 

Phonics:  We would like you to complete one Practice phonics screener from the Home Learning pack. Add sound buttons. Sound out and clearly blend the words to an adult. We have uploaded the screener in the Phonics area.

 

Topic: Choose your favourite toy. Look at it carefully and create a sketch of it. Try to use your pencil to create different sized lines and shapes.

 

Reading: Read your school reading book with an adult. Talk about the story. Have a lovely day.
