Don’t forget: capital letters, full stops, full sentences, conjunctions, beautiful handwriting and maybe some adjectives and adverbs if you can!

Once you have finished your letter, read through it and check it make sense and see if it needs editing. Are there any full stops missing? Any capital letters that need adding? Can you improve your writing?

If you got an answer wrong, that’s fine but please have a look and see what you did wrong. If it is maths; did you add instead of subtract. If it is reading, did you not understand the question. This is the last message from our home learning:

It makes me really sad to have to say goodbye to our amazing year 3 classes over the website. You have all been super, lockdown has definitely been different for us all and you have all adapted and worked so hard. A big thank you to all the parents over lockdown as well, we are so grateful for all your support you have given us and the children when times have been uncertain. The amount of emails we have received with work and photos has been brilliant. I know you will continue working just as hard when you come back to school with your new teachers. They will be so impressed with you all and are very lucky to have you in their class.

Good luck in year 4, we will miss you!! Make sure you say hello if you see us around the buildings!

Have a lovely restful summer.

Use your English plan from yesterday to write today’s story. Remember to start your story with the first few sentences on the page with the picture and then continue writing.

Don’t just write your plan out word for word. You need to write in full sentences and try to make your writing as interesting as possible. I wonder who can use adverbs, adjectives, speech correctly!

Remember correct punctuation (full stops, capital letters) and neat handwriting.

For example:

Plan: What decision did you make? I followed her into the forest.

Who is this girl? A girl from school. Lonely

Writing:

I saw her and then she was completely gone. I heard her gently whispering for me to follow her. It only took me a few seconds for me to decide...

I turned slowly and tiptoed towards the area where the girl used to be. It felt cold, lonely and suspicious just like her. I needed to know more. I wondered how she had gotten there. We were in a deserted, secluded forest that no one had been to in years.

Please send us your English writing today. We look forward to reading them.

English

Today we are finishing off our speech work. We are looking to see how much you can remember from your learning this week. In the English Star, there is a document called mini test that has a few questions all about speech. Let’s see how well you can all do J

Topic/RE

This afternoon, we will be giving you some time to check through your answers and mark with an adult. The maths and reading answers will be available from 2pm for you to tick through your work. If you got an answer wrong, that’s fine but please have a look and see what you did wrong. If it is maths; did you add instead of subtract. If it is reading, did you not understand the question. Have a little think so we can improve next week and learn from our mistakes J

If you have some time after marking, have some reflection time and go onto the daily prayers section on the home learning main section. Use the TenTen resources or complete the family time sheet for this week.

You have until 1pm today to send in any work that we have asked for this week before our gold, silver and bronze stars are updated for the week! There is no allocated piece of work to send today, just make sure you have sent the other pieces.

Remember you are all superstars and we are proud of the work you are doing at home.

Thursday 25th June 2020

Good morning Year 3! We hope you are staying healthy and safe. Mrs Ali and I have been doing some daily walks in the sunshine to keep fit and healthy!

Panthers, you are still in the lead with Times Table Rock star Battle!

Guided Reading

Please answer the questions about yesterday’s text, “Mountains.” The questions are in the Reading Star section on the website.

Remember these questions are retrieval questions so read the text carefully and highlight on the sheet if you need to. You can find the information in the text.

Maths

Go onto the pdf document on the Maths star section called Workout H Matching. Answer the questions into your workbook. You need to match the calculation and answers together – just like the sheets in our MOT sessions in school. Some boxes are missing as you will need to find the answer or calculation that goes in there.

These questions are all division, addition or subtraction calculations. You may want to do some working out to help you with the calculations.

English

Today we are continuing our speech work. In the English Star, there is a document called Missing Punctuation 2. Inside the document there is another new paragraph including speech. This paragraph has no punctuation, please add in the inverted commas and full stops. If you find it easier, underline or highlight the speech like you did earlier this week. Don’t forgot ‘he said’ is not what is being spoken.

Please send us your English work today, we want to see if you have listened to any feedback given this week!

Art

This week you have been focussing on an artist. We would like you to try and recreate a piece of the artist’s work. You can use anything you like whether that is felt tips, colouring pencils, paint or pastels. Remember to look carefully at the artist’s work and try to copy the piece of art as best as you can. We would like to see your final pieces if you can send them to us J Do we have any budding artists in year 3?

Keep smiling!

Good morning Year 3! We hope you are still learning lots at home and keeping up with the tasks set.

If you would like to celebrate a piece of work, craft activity, cooking or exercise you are proud of. Please email us a photo to our email address: year3@holyroodprimary.co.uk

Panthers are still in the lead with the battle but only just! There is only 125 points difference.

Guided Reading

Please read the non-fiction titled “Mountains.” You can find this in the Reading Star section on the Year 3 page.

Underline any words you don’t understand and find out its meaning. You can use a dictionary, search it online or ask an adult.

Maths

Go onto the pdf document on the Maths star section called Workout G Word Problems. Answer the questions into your workbook.

In this document, you have to read through each question carefully and see what it is asking you to do. If you can, underline the important parts of the questions. Think of the key words and what that means.

We would like to be sent your maths work today J

English

Today we are continuing our speech work. We would like you to watch the 2 videos (link below) so you understand about inverted commas and where they go.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-YFmLctwDY

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zvwwxnb/articles/ztcp97h

Yesterday you highlighted the speech and lots of you emailed us to get feedback. Use your highlighting to write or add in your correct punctuation today. Add in the inverted commas and full stops. Remember the inverted commas only go around the parts being spoken (the parts you highlighted yesterday). The videos will help you with this J

Art

Yesterday you looked at and researched an artist and wrote some notes about them and their work. In the Topic Star, there is a document called Artist Fact File. We would like you to use your notes to complete the fact file.

Good morning Year 3! We hope you are all safe and well. Don’t forget, if you need us, just email us at year3@holyroodprimary.co.uk Share your achievements with us too!

Panthers, you have taken the lead with the times table rockstars battle this week. Well done!

Guided Reading

Please answer the questions about yesterday’s text, “Coasts.” The questions are in the Reading Star section on the website.

Remember these questions are retrieval questions so read the text carefully and highlight on the sheet if you need to. You can find the information in the text.

Maths

Go onto the pdf document on the Maths star section called Flower Challenge. Answer the questions into your workbook.

Read the questions carefully. Remember to use your known number facts. If the calculation is __ x 3 = 24, ___ x 4 = 24, ___ x 8 = 24. You could also use different combinations.

English

In the English Star, there is a document called Missing Punctuation 1. Your task is to look at the paragraph, read through it and highlight or underline the speech in the paragraph. Remember the parts you are underlining or highlighting is what is actually being said or spoken. You don’t need to copy out the text adding punctuation that is tomorrow’s job. Just highlight or underline what is being said today.

Please send us your English writing today. We look forward to reading them.

Art Research

In the Topic Star, there are PowerPoints about different artists. We would like you to choose one of them to read through or choose a different artist that interests you. Make notes about this artist such as key facts (name, birthday, place of birthday, what they are famous for, what materials they use, interesting or surprising facts) bullet points will be just fine. We will then be using these notes tomorrow to create a fact file about your chosen artist.

Enjoy your day!

Good Morning Year 3!

We hope you all had a restful weekend and enjoyed the lovely sunshine! We hope you are ready to start your fresh new week of home learning.

Well done to all of the Superstars of the week last term! If you haven’t looked; check to see if your name is on there. Will it be the same children keeping their star this week? Or will new children be added on?

Jaguars, you are the superstar champions of Times Table Rockstars from last time!

Jaguars 11,582 points

Panthers 6,571 points

So far Panthers have won 2 battles and Jaguars have won 3 battles. It has been incredibly close throughout the battles!

A special mention to all the children who sent in their simile poems on Friday, they were absolutely beautiful and so well presented. You should be so proud of yourselves for the work you completed. I know Mrs Ali and I are! So many of you wrote about your parents, how lovely that you wrote such fantastic pieces about them. J

Guided Reading

Please read the information text titled “Hunter with a Heart.” You can find this in the Reading Star section on the Year 3 page.

Underline any words you don’t understand and find out its meaning. You can use a dictionary, search it online or ask an adult.

Maths

Go onto the word document on the Maths star section called ‘Find shapes and match the property.’ Please complete this sheet into your workbook.

You have been given a bank of shapes in the top left hand corner. You have to sort these shapes into the properties in the boxes below. A shape with 3 sides is a triangle so you will write triangle in that box. There may be more than one shape in each box.

Today we would like to see your maths work, please send it to us by email. We look forward to seeing your work.

English

Today we are continuing our simile work by planning our very own simile poem and tomorrow you will write it. This week you have been given support on finishing off similes and now it is time to do it independently! In the English Star, there is a planning sheet for you to use. It gives you an example to read through about someone’s sister describing her with similes.

You will need to choose a person or an object to write about for your poem.

You will then need to write 6 similes about this person, it could be how kind they are or gentle like. Think about the work we have completed this week to help you.

Then in the next box you will need to explain those similes and give a bit more detail. For example, he is as fast as a cheetah always winning in a race. The part in bold is the simile and the part that is underlined is your explanation adding detail.

Don’t write your poem today as this is tomorrows work. Today is just a plan.

RE

Today we would like you to go onto the daily prayers section on the home learning main section. You may like to take this time to use the TenTen resources. There is also a new star in the daily prayers section called family time. You may like to choose this weeks and discuss and work through the sheet together as a family or with an adult.

LOGO DESIGN

Challenge

Think about what job/career you’d like when you’re older. You set up your own business and need to design a logo for it.

First you must think of a name. It can be your own name or a made up one that relates to your business. Then you must experiment with different shapes, layouts and colours until you design one that you think best advertises your company.

Things to remember:

Think about what imagery and colours are related to that industry. Use the internet to look at current logos for inspiration.

For example; if you want to be a hairdresser, you might use scissors in your logo. If you want to be a video games designer, you might use a controller or buttons. If you want to be an estate agent, you might use a house, and so on.

Enjoy your day!

Good morning Year 3! We hope you are still learning lots at home and keeping up with the tasks set. We received lots of super conjunction English work yesterday so a thumbs up to all the children who sent their work in. yes

If you would like to celebrate a piece of work, craft activity, cooking or exercise you are proud of. Please email us a photo to our email address: year3@holyroodprimary.co.uk

A big well done to Panthers yesterday who have just taken the lead with the Times Table Rockstars Battle this week only by about 150 points though! Keep going, you still have until Friday to earn points! Well done to Jaguars though because you have actually had more children log on and play in the battle!

Guided Reading

Please read the non-fiction text titled “Layers of the Ocean.”

For example:

241 = 2 hundreds 4 tens and 1 one = 200 + 40 + 1

Then draw 241 using your dienes.

REMEMBER:

  • Write out your calculations neatly in your exercise books.
  • Use a ruler when drawing the lines.
  • Your place values, one number in each box.
  • Read the question carefully.

Please can you send us your Maths work today. We want to see how good you are at your place value with hundreds, tens and ones!

English

In the English Star, there is a text on Trolls. We would like you to read the text and then complete the worksheet called definitions in the English Star.

See if you can fill in the table with what the words may mean. You can use a dictionary or the internet and at the bottom of the sheet there are words that are similar that may help you. Read through the Trolls text again to read the word to help you.

For example, ogre = giant, can be angry.

Discuss with an adult: What did we celebrate during the April half term?

Watch the video on the link below to remind yourself of the death and resurrection of Jesus.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HL8R158Ujp4

Discuss with your adult:

What do we celebrate during this Easter season? How long did the season last?

What do we know about Jesus? How do we know this about the resurrection though? Because there are many bible stories explaining the sightings of Jesus- can they recall any.

Who did Jesus appear to? – His disciples.

Read the recount of the resurrection of Christ in the picture below or use your own Bible at home if you have one to read Matthew 28:1-10.

What symbols can you identify in this story?

Create poster or an image of these symbols in your workbook explaining each one.

I have put all of this information on a sheet too under the Topic Star.

Today, we would like to see your RE work looking at the symbols we know that link to Easter. Please email them into us at year3@holyroodprimary.co.uk. Children who send this in will get a tick by their name which will help towards those gold, silver and bronze stars at the end of the week!

Continue watching part 2 of the video today and complete the activity

Watch- Switch Watch Video Part 2 with your grown up. When it has finished, discuss how it ended and how you feel about it now.

Then try the following activity…

Activity 1

Make a list with you of some of the things that sometimes make life hectic and crazy at home, e.g. first thing in the morning, or at homework time.

Draw 2 boxes on a page and in the first one to draw or write about one of the most hectic times they can remember at home.

Leave the second box free for later.

Draw or design or make a Switch Watch like the one in the story.

Imagine they are holding the Switch Watch they just made and making a wish for the hectic scenario they drew in Box 1 to change to be much less hectic.

In the second box they draw or write what this less hectic scene would look like if the Switch watch worked.

Which scene do they like the most, the hectic or the more peaceful?

Discuss with an adult what you could all do to make life more peaceful for everybody while they are off school?

Would having a Switch Watch to make time stand still or even rewind it, be useful?

Finish off with the calming time video.

Keep smiling! laugh

PSHE

We are going to carry on our Jigsaw lesson today. Use the link below again

https://families.jigsawpshe.com/stuck-at-home-1/

Continue watching part 2 of the video today and complete the activity of wings into your workbook. We would love to see some of your wings with your goals on! I have put a template on wings into the Topic Star on year 3’s page to help you if you would like.

Watch- Fowley’s Wings Video Part 2 with your grown up.

Discuss what Fowley’s dream was and how he overcame obstacles to achieve it.

  • If you can, parents share with your children what some of your dreams and goals were when you were their age. What did you want to do/become etc?
  • Did you achieve some of these?
  • How did you?
  • Were there obstacles to overcome along the way?

Then try the following activities…

Activity

Ask your children what their dreams and goals might be, for when they are grown up and for the next few weeks while they are off school.

  • Invite them to draw a pair of wings, like Fowley’s.
  • On the wings they draw or write their dreams and goals for the future.

When this work is finished, encourage children to talk through what their dreams and goals are, what they have drawn etc

Discuss how they might go about achieving these and offer your support.

Keep smiling!

English

We are going to look at apostrophes. There are 2 types of apostrophes: possessive and omission. Today we are going to look at omission apostrophes using them for words to make contractions. Eg. Do + not = don’t

We take out some of the letters and replace them with an apostrophe. We have looked at this in year 2 as well.

Complete the contraction worksheet in the English Star, copy these into your workbook. Can you think of anymore contractions? Write these into your workbook too. Choose 4 of the contractions and use them in a full sentence. How exciting and interesting can your sentence be?

If you need to, check over your work from yesterday (diary entry) and read through to edit it. Make sure that it makes sense and you have used the correct tense (past using ed except for an irregular word eg. hung). It would be lovely to be sent some interesting diary entries!

REMEMBER: Neat handwriting!

PSHE

We are going to do our Jigsaw lesson today. Use the link below and watch the first part of the video and have a discussion after. These answers do not need to be written in your workbook.

https://families.jigsawpshe.com/stuck-at-home-1/

Watch- Fowley’s Wings Video Part 1 with your grown up.

Get your grown up to hold a mid-story discussion and ask...

  • What do you think Fowley will do?
  • What’s going to happen to Hove?
  • Is Fowley being encouraged to achieve his dream?
  • How can we manage our feelings when we have dreams and goals that don’t come true?
  • How could you encourage Fowley and Hove?

Don't move onto part 2 of the story yet. We will continue with the second half of the story tomorrow.
